The Equality duty
In the public sector - that's all colleges, schools, hospitals, local councils - any publicly funded organisations - the Equality Act places a duty on all staff to promote and protect equality. This is known as the Equality duty.

The principles of the duty apply to all organisations including private companies, shops, hotels etc. They also are not allowed to discriminate against people because of their protected characteristics. So unfair discrimination is not allowed in Britain.
